A Visual Components Case Study
Midea Group, the world’s largest producer of major appliances, needed to launch a flexible, high-end washing machine assembly line in its Wuxi factory that could handle more than 10 product platforms and over 100 SKUs with mixed-flow production, strict quality requirements, and complex scheduling. To verify designs, layouts, logistics, and production feasibility, Midea’s simulation team turned to Visual Components after finding their previous combination of tools too cumbersome and difficult to integrate.
Using Visual Components as their primary simulation platform, Midea designed, optimized, and validated the washing machine line virtually, including worker assignments and process flows. The result was a 10% reduction in floor area, a 10% increase in production capacity, 20% better line balance, a 45% reduction in headcount, and a drop in reject ratio from 1,120 dpm to 120 dpm, while cutting construction time from 15 to 12 weeks. Overall, Visual Components helped Midea reduce total project costs by about 15%, or roughly $879,000.
