Case Study: Michelin streamlines manufacturing planning with Visual Components 3D simulation

A Visual Components Case Study

Michelin streamlines manufacturing planning with Visual Components 3D simulation across 25+ years of expertise

Michelin's plant in Thailand faced a challenge in manufacturing planning as different teams struggled to reach a shared understanding using traditional 2D engineering drawings and CAD sketches. This lack of a common visual language made it difficult to get buy-in from production, maintenance, safety, and quality stakeholders for new, complex projects. To address this, mechanical engineer Clément Dupuis explored using the 3D simulation software from Visual Components.

Visual Components provided a solution by enabling the creation of accurate 3D digital layouts from point cloud scans of the factory. This allowed Michelin's teams to collaboratively visualize, iterate, and validate equipment placement and workflow ergonomics in a virtual environment before any physical implementation. The results included the early identification of spatial conflicts, optimized layouts that improved operator efficiency, and a significant reduction in miscommunication. Visual Components helped Michelin make better decisions faster, avoiding costly on-site mistakes and ensuring all stakeholders were on the same page.
