IAS, a Wisconsin-based systems integrator, needed to automate a Fortune 500 agricultural company’s seed-testing lab, which had relied on more than 100 temporary workers to manually prepare trays, place seeds, and log data. The process was repetitive, labor-intensive, and prone to quality control and data integrity issues. IAS used Visual Components 3D manufacturing simulation software to design and validate the automation concept.

Using Visual Components, IAS developed a fully automated seed-testing line with six key stations, including tray unloading, seed dispensing, inspection, tamping, and cart loading, supported by robots, cameras, RFID, and machine-learning-based vision inspection. The completed system increased throughput, reduced labor costs, and improved traceability and confidence in the testing data. Visual Components helped IAS quickly refine the design with customer feedback and deliver a complete engineered solution.
