Vislink Delivers Innovative Video Solutions to Formula E Series

Formula E, the FIA electric racing championship, needed a way to deliver consistent, real-time, close-up action from the track and pit lanes despite extreme speed, vibration, and rapidly changing race conditions. Vislink Technologies was brought in to help provide low-latency, crystal-clear video coverage for the series.

Vislink Technologies designed and tested an onboard camera system plus a track-wide receive network for full circuit coverage. The solution used four micro-sized onboard HD cameras per car, H.264 onboard transmitters for live video, audio, and car data, and multiple strategically placed ground receivers to maintain uninterrupted coverage. As a result, Formula E can offer viewers persistent HD footage and immersive camera angles from the cars, with up to 20 of 40 pre-wired cars live at any time.
