Taking Airborne Downlinks to the Next Level with Diversity Receive Systems

RSI Global Communications Group worked with the San Antonio Police Department, a public safety agency serving more than 1.5 million people across a 400-square-mile area, to replace aging analog microwave video equipment. The department needed a more modern airborne downlink system that could deliver live video from multiple helicopters to its Emergency Operations Center and field teams, while also staying interoperable with other local agencies.

Vislink Technologies, working with RSI Global Communications Group, implemented a complete end-to-end digital video surveillance solution featuring helicopter transmitters, fixed and mobile receive sites, handheld receivers, and a Video Media Server. The system converted video to IP for distribution to video walls and mobile devices, improved operating range and image quality, and enabled simultaneous transmission from multiple aircraft using three home channels in the 6.5 GHz band.
