A Visix Case Study
Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), the largest university in Virginia with 30,000 students and over 17,000 faculty and staff, needed a reliable way to inform and protect its large, diverse community and satisfy a Department of Homeland Security grant requirement for public emergency communications. The challenge was delivering timely, multi‑channel alerts and everyday information across a sprawling campus so messages reached different audiences and provoked appropriate action.
VCU deployed Visix’s AxisTV Enterprise digital signage and publishers across 15 buildings—50 displays driven by 40 channel players—with desktop, screensaver and mobile publishers plus sirens at staffed desks and campus access points. The browser‑based system lets staff push campus‑wide overrides from any web device, delivering emergency alerts, news and schedules to displays, desktops and phones; it improved alert reach and response, is being expanded to administrative and outdoor locations, and is preloaded on student laptops to extend communications further.
