A Visix Case Study
Old Dominion University, a major provider of online learning, needed to modernize campus communication to meet “digital native” students’ expectations and stay competitive. The university faced challenges around timely wayfinding, campus-wide emergency alerts, communicating lab availability, gathering dining feedback, and engaging students across multiple buildings and satellite campuses.
IT rolled out a campus-wide digital signage system—large displays, an award-winning interactive kiosk with QR codes, live maps, Twitter integration, and cable/streaming connectivity—while letting departments control their content. The result was faster navigation and services (real-time lab status, quicker dining lines), increased student engagement (the Webb Center became a tech-forward hub), improved emergency communication, and new capabilities like live job-fair streaming, all deployed quickly and at scale.
