A Visix Case Study
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology needed a modern way to reach its diverse community of 11,000+ students and campus visitors without detracting from signature architecture like the Infinite Corridor. Traditional paper signs and ad hoc projectors were unsustainable for student-driven content, and MIT wanted a unified, scalable communications system that could support departmental needs, emergency alerts and a cost-recovery model.
MIT partnered with HB Communications and Visix to deploy AxisTV digital signage across zoned displays, letting display owners manage their own content while integrating systems like FileMaker for live package notifications and custom wayfinding for confusing buildings. The solution drove broad departmental adoption, supported emergency messaging, boosted flu-shot clinic attendance, and generated modest revenue from sponsors and external users to help cover equipment and expansion costs.
