A Visix Case Study
Carleton University, a large campus in Ottawa with over 20,000 undergraduates and thousands of staff, faced a communication challenge when it hosted the nine-day Congress of the Humanities in 2009: 8,000 delegates—many new to campus—needed timely, location-specific information like transit, food options, and weather. The university required a fast, easy-to-manage solution to deliver basic on-site information to unfamiliar visitors.
One month before the event Carleton deployed Visix Axis TV digital signage across 16 screens and used its web-based CMS to run RSS, news, weather, and video feeds, with centrally managed and venue-specific content tailored to locations such as the bookstore, food court, and athletics area. The system proved low‑maintenance, increased engagement, and has since expanded campus-wide as departments request their own displays and contribute localized, interactive content.
