Woolpert Models Devil’s Tower with VisionMap Airborne Imaging System

Woolpert, a U.S. design and geospatial firm founded in 1911 with 25 offices nationwide, was tasked with producing a high-quality 7.5 cm orthophoto and derived 3D products of Devil’s Tower National Monument—a rugged igneous formation surrounded by badlands—while working under strict budget and manpower constraints and juggling other projects.

Woolpert deployed the VisionMap MIST airborne imaging system, whose multi-angle oblique plus nadir capture and VisionMap LightSpeed automatic processing produced a tightly bundle-adjusted image block that exported seamlessly to Bentley Smart3DCapture for photo-textured 3D modeling. The automated workflow delivered colorized point clouds and textured meshes in under a week with fewer than 20 man-hours, yielding striking results the firm now uses for marketing and presentations.
