VisionMap A3 Digital Mapping System Tested by IFP

VisionMap’s A3 Digital Mapping System was evaluated by the University of Stuttgart’s Institute for Photogrammetry (IFP) at the Vaihingen/Enz test site. The challenge was to process a 7.5 × 4.7 km block flown at ~1,972 m with 6 cm GSD and only ten geodetically accurate ground control points (the remaining ~190 GCPs had 1 m accuracy), testing whether the A3 could meet IFP’s stringent photogrammetric accuracy standards.

Using its sweep-frame camera and automated workflow, the A3 processed the block with configurations of 5–8 strips and 5–10 GCPs, delivering RMS horizontal errors of ~0.015–0.023 m and vertical errors of ~0.030–0.052 m—well under one pixel. IFP concluded the system produced “very satisfactory” empirical accuracy, highlighting the A3’s high geometrical accuracy, productivity, and suitability for large-scale mapping projects.
