A VisionMap Case Study
VisionMap, a provider of automated aerial survey and mapping systems, faced the industry challenge of completing large NAIP-style statewide projects quickly and affordably. Typical workflows for a state like Colorado demand 1m GSD RGB/RGBN imagery with strict color/contrast and low cloud cover, often requiring ~120 flight hours (about four months) plus many more months for processing and delivery—pushing project timelines past a year and increasing costs.
VisionMap’s A3 camera and A3 LightSpeed processing system cut acquisition to 46 flight hours (operationally under ten days) and processed the entire dataset in 23 days, yielding full delivery in under a month instead of up to a year. The result: roughly 60% faster acquisition and about 50% of typical operational costs, single-aircraft operations, automated processing by one operator, multi-product outputs (35cm orthophotos, 1m DSM, RGB/RGBN) and ~6m horizontal accuracy without ground control, all while maintaining high image quality.
