A VisionMap Case Study
Vekta, a leading Australian land, engineering and aerial survey provider with over 60 years’ experience, was contracted by the NSW Government to deliver 10 cm GSD RGB imagery with +/-0.25 m RMSE across roughly 14,000 km² covering metropolitan Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong and the Blue Mountains. The project faced tight capture windows and operational limits: much of the area lies in controlled airspace around Kingsford Smith Airport, required a minimum solar angle of 50° to reduce shadows and reflections, and demanded efficient capture from Cessna 402B and 206 aircraft.
Vekta deployed VisionMap’s A3 Digital Mapping System and its LightSpeed automatic processing to meet those constraints. The A3 camera’s ability to shoot at 10,000 ft enabled safe, timely capture in restricted airspace, while LightSpeed processed imagery at scale (hundreds to thousands km² per day) to produce high-quality orthophotos, DSMs and other photogrammetric products. The solution met the project’s accuracy and delivery requirements and proved an efficient end-to-end workflow for large, high-resolution urban mapping.
