Aerodata Captures Diverse Alps Terrain with A3 Digital Mapping System

Aerodata International Surveys, a leading airborne mapping company founded in 1992, was commissioned to capture nearly 20,000 km² of France’s Provence‑Alpes‑Côte d’Azur (PACA) at 20 cm GSD. The diverse area included cities, fields, forests and the Alps, with elevations from sea level to 3,000 m and unstable mountain weather, creating a narrow window of suitable flying days and variable GSD challenges.

Aerodata deployed VisionMap’s A3 Digital Mapping System—dual CCDs with 300 mm lenses and a rotating, up to 106° FOV—to capture high‑resolution vertical and oblique imagery efficiently. Despite poor weather, the team completed the survey in 55 flight hours (about half the time of other systems) and VisionMap’s automatic processing produced DSM, DTM, orthophoto mosaics and metadata on schedule with minimal manpower.
