Scalability Experts, an IT consulting firm, was engaged by a global consulting client to migrate more than 3,000 virtual machines from VMware to Microsoft Hyper‑V to cut licensing costs and gain technical benefits. The core challenge was completing a very large-scale migration quickly and cost‑effectively while keeping business downtime to a minimum; many free or conventional tools proved too slow, complex or risky for the project.

Scalability Experts used Double‑Take Move to replicate servers in the background, keep source and target synchronized, and automate testing and cutovers, allowing daytime syncs and nighttime cutovers. In phase one they migrated about 1,600 VMs (up to 70 per day) with roughly 15 minutes of downtime, reduced migration time to about one‑fifth of the next‑best option, and achieved a simpler, faster and more economical process for the remaining servers.
