Newfoundland Power, a public utility serving more than 225,000 customers across 600+ communities in Newfoundland, faced a critical disaster recovery challenge: tape-based backups left key file, print and application servers offline for 24 hours or more and risked unacceptable data loss. With growing availability demands for systems like Exchange, SharePoint and SQL/Oracle applications, the company needed a solution that delivered 24x7 application availability, fast recovery, and compatibility with virtualized environments.

Newfoundland Power deployed Vision Solutions’ Double-Take Availability, a real-time byte-level replication and failover solution, to replicate systems continuously to local and remote targets. The implementation met their RTO of 30 minutes and RPO of 1 minute, virtually eliminated routine data loss, simplified recovery efforts, integrated with existing hardware and virtualization, and was rolled out from file/print servers to web, Exchange and IVR servers with further deployments planned.
