Nebraska Furniture Mart, Inc. - Customer Case Study

Nebraska Furniture Mart, a Berkshire Hathaway retail company based in Omaha, needed to cut virtualization licensing costs by moving from VMware to Microsoft Hyper-V while simultaneously replacing HP blades with Cisco UCS hardware. The IT team required a migration approach that avoided lengthy application shutdowns, minimized business disruption, and didn’t demand extensive staff time or retraining—limitations that made available “free” conversion tools impractical.

NFM used Double-Take Move to perform virtual-to-virtual migrations of about 60 servers, continuously replicating system and data changes in the background so production stayed online and the final cutover incurred minimal downtime. The migration was faster and less disruptive than alternatives, reduced costs by eliminating ten vSphere Enterprise Plus licenses, and simplified the process through integrated conversion, replication, and bandwidth throttling.
