The Massachusetts Housing Finance Agency (MassHousing) is a state government agency in Boston that finances affordable housing and homeownership—more than $8.7 billion in financing for over 80,000 units and 43,000 mortgages. MassHousing relied on a complex, mixed environment (SQL, Progress, Pervasive, Exchange) and VMware virtualization to run critical business functions and needed 24x7 access to data; tape-based backup was too slow and risked a disruptive operational shutdown if systems failed.

MassHousing implemented Vision Solutions’ Double-Take Availability with VMware ESX to provide continuous replication and fast recovery. Nine production servers replicate to four ESX-hosted virtual DR servers (using one-to-one and many-to-one relationships and WAN replication), enabling restorations in hours or less, faster rebuilds from disk, consolidated disaster recovery, and reliable protection of critical applications in a virtualized, cost-effective design.
