Heritage Bank, a Toowoomba-based mutual with 59 branches, 71 mini-branches and 300,000+ members, relied on Rocket UniVerse on AIX for its core banking and 24/7 online services. With production hardware at end-of-life and UniVerse limitations causing longer backups and inadequate recovery options, the bank needed a solution to guarantee continuous availability and protect member account data against downtime, corruption or loss.

Heritage deployed Double-Take Availability for AIX to replicate UniVerse in real time to a disaster-recovery server, using continuous CDP, automated failover and DR-site snapshots for backups. The implementation eliminated the threat of extended unplanned downtime, provided point-in-time recovery of transactions, cut DR failover from about one hour to ~30 minutes, and saved over an hour of operational processing time six days a week while improving backup and end-of-day efficiency.
