Gränges Sweden AB is a global aluminum manufacturer with production facilities in Sweden and sales offices across Europe, Asia and the Americas that must operate 24x7. After eliminating paper work orders, any system outage would halt operations, and traditional nightly, tape-based backups left up to 24 hours of data at risk and caused unacceptable downtime for the IBM i–based systems that run the business.

To address this, Gränges implemented Vision Solutions’ OMS/ODS and later upgraded to MIMIX Availability to replicate data, applications and system values in real time to a secondary IBM i server in another building. The solution lets the company run backups on the secondary machine, perform maintenance during business hours, and switch production with the press of a button—reducing switchover times from seven minutes initially to about two minutes (most recently 1:36)—while ensuring continuous data protection and simplified HA/DR management.
