Fujitsu America, after acquiring BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina’s data center, faced a performance crisis when a major upgrade to the Power MHS application dramatically increased transaction traffic and overburdened the production server that also hosted the PSTAGE testing/staging partition. With a strict SLA allowing no more than four hours of downtime and a need to avoid backup jobs impacting live applications, Fujitsu needed a simple, nonintrusive way to move the staging environment to a disaster‑recovery server.

Using Vision Solutions’ iTERA Availability, Fujitsu maintained real‑time replicas on a backup and a DR server and performed a “roll swap” to migrate PSTAGE to the DR machine. The change freed production resources, allowed backups to run on replica systems without pausing applications, protected all data and applications, and proved reliable in practice — enabling ongoing rollovers (including plans to relocate the DR site) and consistent, low‑impact disaster‑recovery operations.
