Foodmix Marketing Communications, a 24x7, full-service marketing firm in Elmhurst, IL that serves the food services industry, ran its file server on a VMware-hosted Windows Server while staff used Apple Mac clients. VMware did not support certain external data/USB cards the team relied on, and maintaining VMware added support overhead, so the company needed to move the virtual file server to Hyper-V (included with Windows Server) without disrupting operations.

Working with consultant Russell Walter and Outsource Solutions Group, Vision Solutions’ Double-Take Move used real-time replication to migrate the VM from VMware to Hyper-V. The cutover took about five to six hours with at most a five-minute user interruption on a Saturday, users were largely unaware, all files migrated intact, and the move eliminated additional virtualization licensing costs; Foodmix plans to add Double-Take Availability for ongoing real-time replication and high availability.
