Derbyshire County Council, which serves around 750,000 residents, needed to protect large volumes of time‑sensitive and sensitive citizen data used across services such as education, social services, public transport and public safety. With rising online access and the potential impact of downtime on service delivery, the council required a simple, high‑performance backup and continuity solution that wouldn’t disrupt everyday operations and would minimise the risk of lost data.

Working with Servo, the council deployed Double‑Take to replicate critical data (including Microsoft IIS, SQL Server and in‑house applications) to three local target servers and to a remote site for full disaster recovery. The implementation provides fast failover (10–15 minutes), both local and remote backups, scalable protection as data needs grew, and a cost‑effective platform that ensures 24/7 access for staff and continuity of citizen services.
