The City of Airdrie, Alberta—a municipality serving ~34,000 residents—needed a reliable disaster recovery solution to keep critical municipal data (taxes, permits, payroll, etc.) available 24/7. Their requirements included real-time replication, automatic failover, and migration in a VMware environment to ensure offsite availability and rapid recovery of business‑critical applications.

After evaluating options, the city implemented Double-Take, using Double-Take Application Manager and the Virtual Recovery Assistant to automate protection and virtual replication. The team built seven VMs in four hours and had the full environment running in four days, replicating Exchange, SQL, BES and file servers to a separate DR site over city-owned fiber. The hardware‑agnostic solution eliminated new purchases, enabled immediate failover and faster restores, and set the city up for future physical-to-virtual migrations.
