Carlsberg’s Leeds brewery — one of the brewer’s two major UK sites producing around 3 million hectolitres annually — relied on a SCADA system to control critical production processes. SCADA had failed twice in five years due to hardware faults, each outage taking 2–4 hours to restore and risking production losses of roughly 190,000 litres per four-hour interruption, so the site needed a reliable, low-downtime failover solution.

Carlsberg trialled and then deployed Double-Take’s asynchronous data replication and failover, recommended by IT partner Polestar. Tests showed seamless failover and failback; in production the solution replicates data between central and target servers with a guaranteed failover window of under two minutes. The rollout delivered guaranteed SCADA availability, simplified maintenance (allowing manual failovers for upgrades and testing) and offloaded backups to target servers, ensuring continuity of brewing operations.
