Alphawest Services, an ASX‑listed Australian ICT provider with more than 750 employees and multiple sites, had moved to a VMware private cloud but remained vulnerable to site‑wide outages and branch‑office failures. The company needed a scalable, high‑availability disaster‑recovery approach to prevent data loss, protect centralised tier‑1 systems and remote servers, and allow routine failover testing without impacting production.

Alphawest implemented Optus Evolve WAN and Optus Elevate cloud together with Vision Solutions’ Double‑Take Availability and RecoverNow to provide continuous replication to the cloud and real‑time branch backups. The solution enabled simple, frequent failover testing, eliminated backup windows and tape management, and allowed branch servers to be restored as VMs or to new hardware; a simulated datacenter loss recovered in about three hours with less than 30 seconds of data loss, while RPO/RTO improved to minutes and DR runbooks were dramatically simplified.
