SSE, through its Scottish and Southern Energy Power Distribution division, needed to prepare for Ofgem’s RIIO-ED1 regulatory regime, which required a shift to customer-focused, TOTEX-based decision making and more agile operating practices. The challenge was not just regulatory compliance, but also changing a long-standing command-and-control culture and helping engineers and managers think more like value-focused decision makers. VISION Consulting was brought in to support this transformation.
VISION Consulting worked with SSEPD to create a Value Management Model, the Commitment Loop, and Circuit Investment Contracts to prioritize maintenance and investment based on value, risk, and customer impact. The results included a projected incentive value of more than £100 million, about £2 million in savings already generated with another £7 million projected over the next 12 months, and an average 15% TOTEX savings on each circuit. The program also drove a stronger culture of completion, improved forecasting and accountability, and positioned SSE as an industry leader in RIIO readiness.
