The City of Edmonton, one of Canada’s fastest-growing large municipalities, needed better workforce insights to support rapid expansion of services while stewarding public funds. Its HR team had been assembling time-consuming monthly reports and an annual printed headcount binder from PeopleSoft and other systems, which were static, quickly out of date, and didn’t allow leadership to drill down into issues like talent acquisition, safety, or retention across a wide range of job functions.

The City selected Visier’s SaaS people analytics platform to unify data from PeopleSoft, Taleo and other sources, provide pre-built metrics and interactive visualizations, and give HR and senior leaders self-service access to on-demand analysis. As a result, Edmonton transformed HR into a fact-based function with faster access to workforce data, improved capacity planning and safety insight, better hiring and retention decisions, and opportunities for cost savings such as lower workers’ compensation premiums.
