A Visier Case Study
A large healthcare organization with more than 50,000 employees used Visier People for Healthcare to address a staffing challenge: a hospital with declining patient volumes needed to reduce nurse headcount, but a union LIFO (last hired, first out) rule would have required laying off the newest—and most costly to recruit—nurses. The organization needed a data-driven way to meet financial targets while minimizing layoffs and reputational damage.
Analytics showed the affected hospital had higher hiring/retention costs for newer nurses and four times as many employees eligible to retire as other sites. HR promoted early retirements and relied on natural attrition rather than layoffs, avoiding the need to dismiss any new nurses. Laying off those nurses would have cost $1.5M directly; by using attrition they achieved a $400,000 direct cash saving and preserved employer brand and workforce stability.
