Global Workforce Insights Lead to Agility in Unpredictable Economic Environment

Anglo American, a global mining company of about 69,000 people, needed accurate, data-driven workforce insights to hire, retain, and redeploy talent amid unpredictable economic cycles. Its HR data was fragmented across six SAP systems, SuccessFactors, an internal database and an SQL warehouse, and business units used inconsistent metrics, making reporting slow, error-prone, and unable to support timely decisions.

In 2017 Anglo American implemented Visier as a single people-analytics platform, established a data governance council and unit-level analytics champions, and standardized master data with weekly loads. The outcome was common metrics and faster, more accurate reporting (from days to under 30 minutes), improved visibility into attrition and diversity that prompted creation of a Diversity & Inclusion role, and stronger, data-driven HR support for workforce availability, cost and strategic decisions.
