The customer, a manufacturer of aftermarket compact driver monitoring cameras, partnered with Visage Technologies to develop a solution for real-time driver attentiveness and drowsiness detection. The challenge was to optimize computer vision algorithms to run on the Ambarella CV25 SoC, using its specific inference accelerators, while processing a near-infrared video stream from various in-cabin camera positions.

Visage Technologies delivered an optimized vision model through transfer learning and quantization-aware training, specifically tailored for the Ambarella hardware. The solution achieved high accuracy on a full-HD NIR stream with a total size under 13MB and used only 26% of the CPU. These results exceeded customer expectations and matched state-of-the-art performance, enabling an efficient and accurate embedded driver monitoring system.
