A Virtuozzo Case Study
Rebel.com, a domain name registrar and hosting provider, faced the challenge of building a cost-effective and competitive Virtual Private Server (VPS) product on Amazon EC2. Using individual EC2 instances for each customer was powerful but proved too expensive and inefficient at scale, as analysis showed customers were using only a fraction of their reserved resources. The company needed a solution to improve server density and optimize costs without sacrificing performance.
The solution was implemented by deploying Virtuozzo 7 on top of Amazon EC2 instances. This allowed Rebel.com to provision multiple VPSs for customers on a single physical server, dramatically increasing efficiency. The results were significant, with Virtuozzo enabling a 5X improvement in server density. This maximized cost-efficiency, provided on-demand scalability to handle peak workloads, and allowed Rebel.com to offer a leading-edge cloud hosting service.
