Implementing an 'Automation First' Testing Strategy

Macmillan Learning’s iClicker team needed a test automation approach that would fit agile workflows without overloading manual QAs or relying heavily on engineers. Their challenge was to speed up automation creation, reduce maintenance burden, and keep pace with a dynamic development environment, so they turned to Virtuoso and its automated testing platform.

Virtuoso ran a pilot using 62 regression scenarios, giving Macmillan Learning’s manual QA team just a two-hour orientation before they began building tests. The results were significant: automation creation time dropped 88% from 340 hours to 40 hours, execution time fell 82% from 2.75 hours to under 30 minutes, regression testing shrank from 128 hours to 30 minutes, and manual execution costs fell 99.2% from $1,280 to $10. Virtuoso also reduced automated test execution cost by 63.6% from $27.50 to $10 while improving speed, simplicity, and browser/OS coverage.
