Case Study: Industrial Supply Company achieves validated storage performance and reduced replication risk with Virtual Instruments

A Virtual Instruments Case Study

Preview of the Industrial Supply Company Case Study

Test and Validate Time-based, Multi-Application Workload Performance in a Remote Replication Environment

Industrial Supply Company, a Fortune 500 industrial supplier, needed to validate the performance of new storage platforms and test how increased Oracle and mixed workloads would affect SLAs in a remote replication environment. Using Virtual Instruments’ Load DynamiX storage performance analytics platform, the IT team sought to determine workload limits, latency, IOPS, and throughput before moving the VMAX3 infrastructure into production.

Virtual Instruments helped profile production workloads and emulate them across two datacenters to test both async and sync SRDF replication under 1X to 6X load levels. The results showed the VMAX3 platform could easily support a 2X workload increase, while 3X exceeded the 10 ms latency SLA and pushed SRDF/A to its limit; async replication outperformed sync, with 855.7 MB/s throughput and 7.5 ms response time versus 810.1 MB/s and 10.9 ms.
