Storage Infrastructure Performance Validation Reduces Technology Risk and Speeds Innovation

GE Global Infrastructure Services needed to solve a hard-to-reproduce I/O performance issue and reduce the risk of introducing new storage technologies across a large, highly virtualized environment. GE turned to Virtual Instruments’ Load DynamiX Enterprise workload modeling and load generation solution to benchmark applications, validate storage performance, and troubleshoot metadata-heavy workloads.

Virtual Instruments helped GE create a consistent, repeatable testing framework to profile real workloads, stress-test storage arrays, and compare vendor configurations before production. As a result, GE reduced downtime risk, validated tiering policies and SAN behavior, identified array throughput limits and metadata bottlenecks, and optimized storage sizing and purchasing—potentially saving millions by avoiding overprovisioning and performance-related issues.
