Reducing the Risks of Storage Migration

Morrisons, the UK supermarket chain, needed to migrate storage and more than 600 applications, including critical Oracle PeopleSoft and E-Business Suite systems, without disrupting performance. The company worked with Virtual Instruments and its VirtualWisdom Infrastructure Performance Analytics (IPA) platform to gain the visibility needed to protect business-critical applications during the move.

Virtual Instruments implemented VirtualWisdom with SAN Performance and SAN Availability Probes to baseline performance before, during, and after the migration, and to uncover issues early in testing. As a result, Morrisons identified and fixed several significant performance and configuration problems before production cutover, achieved comprehensive system-wide visibility, and reduced migration risk while supporting better capacity planning and lower CAPEX through performance-based investment decisions.
