A Virtual Instruments Case Study
NewYork Presbyterian Hospital, one of the nation’s largest and most comprehensive healthcare providers, needed to evaluate flash storage arrays for performance-sensitive virtualized applications running on VMware over Fibre Channel, SMB, and NFS. The hospital wanted a valid testing tool that could accurately simulate real production workloads, including deduplication and compression effects, so it could choose the right storage system with minimal risk. Virtual Instruments’ Load DynamiX was used for this assessment.
Virtual Instruments implemented Load DynamiX hardware, software, and professional services to model production-like workloads, benchmark candidate arrays, and compare performance under different data-reduction and read/write scenarios. The tests showed clear differences between the arrays, with one system reaching up to 240 MB/sec versus about 120 MB/sec for the other under the custom application workload. As a result, NewYork Presbyterian Hospital identified the flash array that best matched its workload profile, reduced deployment risk, and gained confidence that the selected system could support production demand.
