Case Study: Public Utility Company achieves predictable flash storage performance with Virtual Instruments

A Virtual Instruments Case Study

Preview of the Public Utility Company Case Study

Load DynamiX enables a public utility company to select the optimal flash storage array

Public Utility Company, which manages electric power for more than 10 million customers, needed to evaluate three competing flash storage arrays as it grew data volumes and replaced aging infrastructure. Lacking in-house storage architects, it turned to Virtual Instruments and its Load DynamiX service to run a fair, independent performance bake-off focused on price/performance and future capacity headroom.

Virtual Instruments deployed Load DynamiX Professional Services to model production-like workloads, run 1x to 4x stress tests, and analyze throughput, IOPS, and latency across all three systems. The testing showed that Systems 2 and 3 outperformed System 1 at 2x and 3x load, and System 3 delivered the best latency at 4x overload; the process gave the customer confidence in its selection and clarity on storage limits, helping avoid under- or over-provisioning.
