A Virtru Case Study
Spackenkill Union Free School District, a K–12 public district in New York serving 1,500 students, faced new requirements from New York State’s Education Law 2‑d to protect personally identifiable information (PII) sent via email. Because the district relies heavily on Gmail, they needed an easy-to-use email encryption solution and selected Virtru’s end‑to‑end encryption for messages and attachments to close the gap when data leaves their network.
Virtru deployed integrated encryption for Gmail with features like automated PII detection and encryption prompts, plus controls to set expirations, disable forwarding, and revoke access. As a result, Spackenkill meets Ed Law 2‑d requirements, enables secure communications among administrators, teachers, parents and students, and gives departments such as the Business Office and Special Education greater confidence and control when sharing sensitive records.
