The State of Colorado Uses Virtru for Controlled File Sharing in Microsoft 365

The State of Colorado needed a secure way to share sensitive data across its government agencies and the Secretary of State department, especially after Proofpoint Secure Share shut down in 2024. It evaluated multiple vendors and chose Virtru to support Microsoft 365 email and file sharing for information including elections data, business filings, PII, and CUI.

Virtru provided Virtru for Microsoft Outlook, Virtru Secure Share, and Virtru Private Keystore to help the state apply right-sized security, replace large file exchange up to 15 GB, and control its own encryption keys. The Secretary of State department also used Security Rules to set a 3-month expiration date for emails and files leaving the network, giving the state more control over access to shared data.
