BVU Authority, a utility company serving Southwest Virginia, needed to protect sensitive employee and customer information while facing a heavily targeted threat environment. The company manages over 16,000 electric customers and nearly 8,000 water and wastewater accounts, so safeguarding personally identifiable information and meeting compliance requirements is a priority. BVU Authority adopted Virtru for Microsoft Outlook after a recommendation from its insurance carrier.

Virtru’s email encryption was deployed across multiple departments to secure information ranging from employee benefits and pay data to customer contracts, lease agreements, mortgage information, and GASB 75 reporting details. Before Virtru, BVU Authority had to fax sensitive employee information, but the company found Virtru to be a quicker and more secure alternative. Todd Jones said the tool was easy for staff to use, and the solution was embraced across the organization as part of BVU Authority’s broader security approach.
