Newfield Schools Use Virtru to Close the Inequity Gap for Data Protection

Newfield Central School District (NCSD) faced urgent privacy and security challenges after becoming a one-to-one district and moving to Google Workspace during the COVID-19 pandemic. With many low-income students and a tight technology budget, NCSD needed an affordable way to meet New York’s Ed Law 2-D and protect student data in a suddenly digital learning environment, so the district chose Virtru and adopted Virtru encryption for Google Workspace.

Virtru delivered district-wide encryption for both email (in motion) and Google Workspace (at rest), enabling Newfield to achieve Ed Law 2-D compliance, allow any staff member to create encrypted documents, and secure communications affordably across the whole district. The Virtru deployment closed an inequity gap in student data protection, helped teachers adapt quickly with easy-to-use tools and best practices, and strengthened privacy controls to reduce risks like student identity theft.
