Iron County Schools Ensure Student Safety and Privacy with Virtru

Iron County Schools, a Utah district responsible for dozens of schools and preschools, needed to protect students’ personally identifiable and health information across many interconnected systems and when sharing data with parents, healthcare providers, and state or local government. To meet strict privacy requirements (FERPA, HIPAA, COPPA, and the Utah Data Privacy Act) the district selected Virtru’s email and data encryption solution to secure student records, IEPs, medical files, transcripts, and other sensitive communications.

Virtru was rolled out across departments (growing from an initial ~30 users to roughly 200 licenses) to encrypt outbound data, provide audit trails and read receipts for parent communications, and enable School Resource Officers to securely share video incidents with law enforcement without overexposing district systems. As a result, Iron County Schools now meets federal and state compliance requirements, reduces paper-based communication loss, streamlines secure collaboration with state and local agencies, and has daily, organization-wide use of Virtru to protect student privacy.
