Reducing the risks of storage migration with the Virtana Platform

UK Supermarket Chain, a UK-based major retailer running Oracle Retail and E‑Business Suite on an HPE/Brocade storage environment, faced a large-scale storage migration to HPE 3PAR and upgraded SAN connectivity while replicating to a secondary datacenter. With more than 600 applications to move, the IT team needed to prove the new environment would meet or exceed existing performance and to catch any issues before they affected production. They engaged Virtana and its Virtana Platform as a vendor-neutral monitoring and diagnostic solution.

Using the Virtana Platform to instrument the infrastructure, the team created dashboards and baselines to monitor pre-, during- and post-migration performance, uncovering several configuration and performance problems during early testing and enabling fixes before cutover. Virtana’s end-to-end insight eliminated vendor finger-pointing, supported successful migration of 600+ applications, reduced migration risk and CAPEX through capacity-driven provisioning and cost avoidance, and provided continuous verification that the new storage met performance objectives.
