Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce - Customer Case Study

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce (CIBC), a Canadian multinational banking and financial services corporation, faced rising support costs and compliance pressure caused by physical and virtual server sprawl. Its legacy environment included 5,400 Windows 2003 systems, 1,440 IIS 6.0 instances, and 837 SQL 2005 instances, creating an urgent need to modernize applications and retire non-compliant platforms. VirtaMove helped CIBC evaluate its options through a two-week proof of concept.

Using VirtaMove, CIBC moved legacy applications and databases with a 96% success rate and up to a 100X reduction in migration effort for complex, dependency-heavy systems. The project reduced effort by about 60 hours per server and delivered nearly $3 million in cost savings across 1,440 instance migrations and 837 database instance migrations. VirtaMove also helped CIBC retire non-compliant OS environments, improve security posture, reduce on-prem maintenance costs, and lower overall application migration expense.
