Case Study: University of Wrocław enhances veterinary teaching with Virtalis Haptic Cow simulation

University of Wrocław uses Virtalis Haptic Cow to eliminate live-animal practice for 4th-6th year vet students

The University of Wrocław's Faculty of Veterinary Medicine sought to enhance its teaching methods for large-animal diagnosis while removing the need for students to practice on live animals. To address this challenge, the university worked with Virtalis to implement the Haptic Cow simulator and its accompanying Haptic Vet simulation software.

Virtalis provided an all-in-one solution featuring a haptic robot arm inside a fibreglass cow shell, which gives physical feedback to simulate touching animal organs. This software-based system allows instructors to quickly simulate different scenarios and provide real-time guidance to students by viewing their movements on a screen. The results for the University of Wrocław include giving students early exposure to diagnosing pathologies in horses and cows in a safe, flexible, and controlled environment without the use of live animals.
