A Vinformatix Case Study
Pennington Biomedical Research Center researchers Dr. Catrine Tudor-Locke and Dr. Corby Martin asked whether low-intensity exercise during work hours could deliver meaningful health benefits. Vinformatix responded by designing and integrating a Pedal Desk system—custom hardware built around a stationary bike that lets users pedal at low RPM while performing normal desk work.
Vinformatix implemented the solution with data collection of physical output, project-specific analysis algorithms, real-time dashboards, and a backend database for tracking and exporting participant progress. Pennington used the Pedal Desk in an initial study with convincing results, co-authored a paper published in the US National Library of Medicine (February 2016), secured additional grants, and returned to Vinformatix for a second phase that added software features to give clinicians richer participant data.
