Case Study: Harvard‑Westlake School builds student-run live sports broadcasts and boosts viewership with Vimeo

A Vimeo Case Study

How Harvard-Westlake Uses Live Video for Education

Harvard‑Westlake School, a top‑ranked private school in California, needed a reliable, scalable solution to expand HWTV, its student‑run live production program that covers athletics, performances and campus events. To support multi‑camera productions, live graphics, instant replay, audience growth and selective access control, the school adopted Vimeo’s Livestream platform (including the Enterprise plan) as its end‑to‑end streaming and distribution solution.

Using Vimeo (Livestream), Harvard‑Westlake built rolling mobile production units run by students, implemented simulcasting to Facebook Live, added password protection for select content and leveraged Vimeo’s analytics and support. The program scaled from 23 streamed events in year one to an average of 70–90 events annually, with year‑over‑year viewership growth of about 50% (25,000 → 50,000 → 70,000), a single event drawing 16,000 viewers, audiences in 20+ countries, and more than 300 broadcasts without a technical failure — while expanding into non‑athletic events and curricular broadcast journalism.
