How 92nd Street Y Creates Community with Live Video

92nd Street Y is a 140‑year‑old New York cultural and community center that wanted to extend its programs beyond its physical building to reach and engage audiences worldwide. To meet that challenge they selected Vimeo’s Livestream platform (including Livestream Simulcast) in 2012 to reliably broadcast talks, classes, and services to remote viewers.

Using Vimeo’s Livestream and Simulcast features, 92Y’s in‑house production team streams simultaneously to multiple destinations (Livestream, their on‑demand site, Facebook, Twitter/Periscope), dramatically expanding reach and engagement. In 2017 they recorded 365,162 views on Livestream and 360,947 on Facebook Live (effectively doubling anticipated viewership); a Simon Sinek event drew 290 Livestream views and 85,000 on Facebook, with 878 Reactions, 585 Shares, and 289 Comments—while High Holiday services now connect congregants across states.
