vXchnge - Customer Case Study

vXchnge, a carrier‑neutral colocation provider and the first 100% ISO 27001 edge provider, faced inconsistent thermal environments and inefficient cooling across datacenters with multiple CRAC/CRAH units lacking coordinated control. To address this, vXchnge piloted and then deployed the Vigilent Dynamic Cooling Management system to add automated, intelligent control and real‑time thermal visibility.

Vigilent installed a wireless mesh of sensors and controllers and used machine‑learning software to map airflow and optimize each cooling unit, coordinating on/off cycles and fan speeds. The Vigilent system was deployed in ten days and cut cooling energy 23% in OR01‑Portland (245 kW to 188 kW) within 24 hours; earlier NY02‑Westchester results showed a 44% reduction (199 kW to 112 kW) and a 4°F CRAH ΔT increase, and TX01‑Austin dropped 25% (802 kW to 605 kW) with an 11°F ΔT gain. These outcomes improved capacity, freed operations staff from manual tuning, enabled utility rebates, and delivered sustained energy and reliability gains.
